Advertising Space

Hello dear readers. Tonight I'm gonna start things off by telling you where you need to go on the internet. Or, in a more truthful manner of speaking, I'm gonna give ya'll a few links to go play with.

Firstly, at the request of my friend 'The Developer', I present to you, an interesting RPB that I have discovered in the last month or so. This particular RPB is called Arcane Academy. It is centered around a floating island, hidden from the rest of the world. There, players gather in and around a (as you've probably guessed) magical school, where just about anything can happen. From fighting dragons to fighting over who gets to use the bathroom first, your magical alter-ego is free to explore.

Secondly, I would like to give recognition to Ze Frank for his wonderful webcast, The Show. A video blog that can cover anything from the latest news, to his interpretation of signs he sees on his travels. He's often times a funny man, but even when he isn't making jokes, you'll learn to love the guy as he uses his vast knowledge to dish out a piece of himself one day at a time.

In other news, someone has made a case study against the ESRB's rating system, saying that they are inaccurate because they fail to take into account the amount of violence presented to the player within the game. This study is totally ludicrous, and yet the judge took the whole thing on as factual evidence, simply because the statistics were, in a sense, true. It just goes to show that we have to stop listening when people totting the last name Thompson take the podium in relation to games.

I'll cover more news at a later time. But right now, I've got people to do and things to see.

There Was A Time Before Computers?

Apparently so. Or so says this comedic image I had forwarded to me just yesterday.

Now... I'm not one to be fooled easily. But when has a fw: email ever steered me wrong?

In other news, I discovered a nifty little vid over at YouTube. Final Fantasy VII: Last Order. The circle is now complete.

In all actuality, I don't really have much of interest to say beyond those few little bits of fun. If you really feel like it, you can go and view my AMV's on YouTube now, negating the need to sign up to AMV.org to see them (though you will still have to do so to see my less favorite three).

Is That A Bear Suit?

Hey there everyone. Just a quick post with some Napz art. Silly me thought I'd have to ask permission to use it. Seems to me he just loves the publicity. Heh... Go figure...

Just some sketches, but it's still pretty sweet stuff.

He's probably playing WoW...

He thinks he's pretty funny

The second one is a sort of parody of the pilot he's working on. You can all expect to see it up here just as soon as it's done. As a progress report, he's finished the initial drawing stages, and is either going to retrace it onto a clean sheet of paper, or he's just gonna scan it and colour it. Either way, it shouldn't be TOO long before it's ready.

Photo's Galore

Alright all you blog fans. Here's the lowdown on my house, and a few of the people within it.

This is the smaller lounge room that belongs to myself, Yoshi and my little brother Zac. Seen depicted in the image is Yoshi in his trademark green shirt and jeans, playing Zac's Xbox and wondering why the hell I'm taking a photo of him.

This is the main lounge room with stupidly large TV. It's mostly only for the parent usage, but whenever they're not here we get plasma TV privileges. If you look carefully, you'll be able to see my dog Indy.

This is more or less my bedroom (bed is in the next photo). My TV and my game collection over to the right, and my desk that is used for anything but writing, reading or using a computer. Actually, we generally just put stuff on it to make it look interesting. Like Yoshi's plush toys and my lightsaber. We also have a killer movie collection but you can't see it behind the sliding cabinets where we keep the games.

Another little game for ya. See if you can spot the sea monkey tanks. We think we screwed them up cus they're not growing...

This is the bunk bed Yoshi and I share. I've got the futon on the bottom and he's got the mattress on top (you can tell by how mine is the made bed). It's actually in couch mode at this point, but the back falls flat when I go to bed.

And this is the very computer room I type this from. It's a total mess and that is MSN on the screen for those who are wondering. As a piece of trivia, the room won't look like that for long as my parents are getting all new furniture and a new computer (I'm inheriting this dying creature).

And while I was going to leave it at that, I figured, what the hell, I'll add some shots of people in there.

This is my little brother Zac... He is 8 years old, and he is seen here wielding a knife, maliciously murdering his birthday cake. I have no idea what the other kid's name is.

This is my ever lovely mother dearest, and my stepfather Reg. It's an older photo from an older house, but if I were to use the more recent photo of her eating cake and laughing, she would kill me stone dead where I stand.

And that's about it really. Yes I'm denying you of a photo of me, but I'd rather stay the mysterious figure who types this blog than show my face right now. Such is the way of the blogger.

Drugs, Sex and Rock & Roll

Well, I survived the night, and am here to tell the tale. To tell the truth, I haven't really hung out in many clubs, but this experience was certainly interesting...

The night started off with some trouble finding the place, but Yoshi and I finally found it, and just in time to be first in line for at the door tickets. So alota other crap happened and we eventually descended into what looked to be one of the most posh places I've ever been to (worry not oh lovers of rock. It didn't stay like that for long). We found ourselves a perch, got some beer and listened to the DJ, periodically chatting to Cheeseman when he passed our table (Cheeseman being that friend of mine I mentioned. Lead guitarist). We were told that although the night started at 8, his band wasn't actually up till 11, so we had a bit of a wait in front of us.

The first band were pretty good. They rocked out just like any other and some people got to dancing down near the stage. But nothing very big happened with them. It seemed most people were content to stand around the bar.

I never did hear a whole lot from the second band, as I had developed a headache, so I drank some water and headed up top to get some fresh air. I got to run into some old friends from high school who were there to see No Filter like we were, and we got to chat a bit and whatnot.

And so finally 11pm rolled around, and the guys started to set their gear up. As soon as this happened, everyone piled up at the stage, and started cheering, even though they weren't actually playing yet. And when they finally DID get to playing... The whole place simply exploded. Everyone loved them.

Cheeseman even got a mass of attention as at the end of the first song, the boys crowded around him as he told them all something. The lead singer then approaching the podium and yelling "cheesy broke the mother-fucking strings!". This was followed by the chanting of "Cheeseman! Cheeseman!". A few songs later, his replacement guitar was starting to shit him, so he called out for his now restrung one, to which the band broke out into a song about the guitarist. Lines like "Cheeseman go and get your fucking guitar" managed to bring a smile to the faces of Yoshi and myself. They even managed to incorporate his name into the end of another song somewhere, giving a real vibe that he had become a force to be reckoned with.

Stay tuned because since it's taken me some 5 hours to type this up, I've taken photo's of my house to share with you all. But I'll post them separately.

Kickin It With The Big Time

Hey all you readers. Today as a special treat I'm announcing that a good friend of mine will be playing at a concert tonight at 8pm in a place called the 'Lounge Room' up in the city. It's the official release of the bands EP (which is a term for album, or so I'm told). The bands name is No Filter, and you can check em out on their myspace page and listen to a few of their songs.

Anyway. Anybody in or around the Brisbane metropolitan area should swing by and check em out fer a measly $10. You won't be disappointed I assure you.

If you can't make it, or are simply too far away, then never fear! I will be reporting back on the nights festivities, and hopefully I'll manage to snag some snaps of the band in action to throw up here (If camera's are allowed). Though you may have to wait a bit before you get them as rumors of an afterparty are circling, and I may be too smashed to type.

Anyhow. This is me signing off to go and get drunk, blast music, and with any luck, get laid.

Check This Out

Alrighty then boys and girls, here's the lowdown of the new skill I've just aquired... Since I've become a member of the ever loveable digg.com, I was bound to sooner or later start finding new stories that hadn't been posted yet. So, in order to add to the community, I've began to 'digg' these undug stories.

Now for those of you who don't know... Digg.com is much like Wikipedia, in that it is made for users by users! A news site where we chose what is news worthy. It's a brilliant concept that I have just utterly fallen in love with.

So. Using digg, I am able to make the news I discover, read by more people than if I were to just simply post it on my humble little blog here. And so lo I find a way to combine these two forces... Using digg.com, I can easily throw my diggs onto my blog here, and not only bring the story to the attention of more people, but it gives you guys the oppertunity to help me out, and in a way, help the digg community out, by going to the 'digg story' link at the bottom of this page, and clicking the 'digg' button under the number on the left hand side.

To actually access the story's link itself, click on the 'read more' link next to it. Happy reading, and happy digging!

Total Frustration

My GOD! I haven't been so pissed off with a game since I snapped my SNES controller in half through sheer rage at one Sunset Riders game. SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos is not only a glichy game... It is so god damn cheap with the later characters in the Arcade mode, that even when you have given them 1/3 their original health, they STILL manage to arse rape you without even breaking a sweat! The final boss I had been contending against, I swear to god, could take 3/4 of your health in one combo. A combo he was quite fond of...

In a fit of rage, I finally snapped and hurled my controller at the ground hard enough to cause it to bounce back up and land on a shelf in the TV cabinet. I've no idea whether or not it still works, as it may very well be completely broken now. I was too pissed off to check. Suffice it to say, I never thought I could loath a game as much as I now hate that game...

Now... While I know the game is flawed... Don't take this as a review or anything... I'm still running off the adrenalin from the throw. I might get around to speaking on it if the occasion strikes me later... But for now I feel sick just looking at the accursed thing...

That's all I can think about right now... Arg...

Electronic Entertainment Elimination

I'm sure you may very well have already heard this little tidbit... But for those of you who are not in the know, I feel the need to... Express myself unto you in a manner that is not befitting of my usual carefree and attemptingly humorous manner... For those of you who do not wish to open their minds to a perception of my persona that has not manifest itself since the birth of this blog, then I beseech you to turn your gaze further down the post until you hit the Youtube videos... You have been warned.

------------------------------------------------------------

Now... For the love of all that is good and holy in this land of overpriced sticks of tobacco designed to kill you one puff at a time, who the hell decided that canceling E3 was a good idea?! So the various venues that are linked in some way to the event, including hotels and the like make in excess $50 million each E3... So all that money comes from the developers... So I never got to GO to the damn thing!

I understand that, as Penny Arcade stated, the loss of the already rather exclusive E3 is not a fatal blow to the industry, and in fact will likely mean more information more often... But FUCK! It blows my steam! E3 is just about the closest things gamers of the world can attribute to being an international games recognition week. Not quite a holiday... But a time period where all the good little nerds and geeks gather around their plasma flatscreen and wait for small gifts to fall into their laps like a pez dispenser with a timer and live streaming dates.

Did I mention I've still not been able to go?

While I'm sure we will all survive another Quanza without our palates being moistened by the expo, but what my point here is, is that I don't think we really want to. We like our E3, and we would kindly ask that you give it back. It's like saying Christmas is now and forever canceled, but don't worry, you'll get the same amount of gifts spread out through the year. Well bucko... We don't WANT that! I LIKE sitting down at Christmas and opening gifts one after the other. I LIKE anticipating the morning of the day. I LIKE the whole god damn experience thank you very much. And as I carry my metaphor beyond the legal limits, I must point out that I have the exact same feelings about E3.

E3 doesn't belong to the developers anymore. It belongs to the people. The kids with dreams of grandeur, who watch the videos and tell themselves "Someday I'll go to E3... Someday". I can't even hold it akin to telling your kids Santa isn't real. It's like telling them he was brutally murdered by Mrs clause who then promptly sodomized the Easter bunny and cooked it for dinner, and that neither holiday shall ever be celebrated ever again. Now tell me... Would tell your children that? No? Then DON'T FUCK with our E3 damn it!

------------------------------------------------------------

Now that that's off my chest. Let's all welcome back the more calm Maverik... That's it. Breath deep the fresh air my everything is excreting now that all that angst and rage is dealt with. And as I promised you... 2 Youtube links that pertain to an old event, but one that I still think is absolutely hilarious...

I give you...

Jon Stewart on Crossfire

And....

The Aftermath

A Promise Made Is A Promise Kept

Here you go. One Skunkman.

In other news, I found the camera, then lost it again... So we are still short on photos of the SeaMonkey tanks and other various things...

I've just had an interview for a 'day job' at Toyworld, so if I can get that, I'll have money again which is a good thing. Though it will make the contest exceedingly hard to pull off... But we SHALL prevail! I promise this thing will go ahead as planned.

Another short update I know... But it's better than no update.
